Only a parrot sat in a tree! so we stand there tryin to get it down, cause obviously it aint safe for it to stay there with the cold n the mancunain birds n all, and it just sorta flys onto my shoulder n sits there pecking at my coat n then jumps onto toms arm instead.....then he just went back into the tree and sat there on the branches and we carried on trying to get him down but with no luck....we must have been there about an hour trying to get him, and then i went into victoria station to find a policeman or someone who could maybe get through to RSPCA or somethin, then i headed back to the tree with this security guy, and i get back to find the bastard thing had flown off!

so me and tom walked in the direction it had flown, which just happened to be the way to the bus as well, n we didnt see it so we went into the bus station and got the on the bus. The bus went round past the co op where tom, somehow, spotted the parrot again back on his tree. So we went back over and carried on trying to catch him, then he flew away again, so we waited till he came back, which he did. Eventually, after probably 2 hours of parrot baiting, this guy called Arnold comes over to help, just like may other people before, coaxes it down to the metal thing round the tree, drops his jacket on it and catches it! then we took it into the print works to some security guys, got a box and holed it for the parrot, then went into the back part of the printworks where nobody goes and gave our details and that was that!

turns out this arnold guy acctually has a lot of birds and breeds em too so it might go to him after RSPCA checked it out.

n then on the way home the bus got diverted just to take the piss

...so anyway I was in the triangle just sorta standin there with a few friends, and eventually as usual we got kicked out. So out we went onto CATHEDRAL GARDENS...NOT URBIS...CATHEDRAL GARDENS....GET IT RIGHT!!! and just as I was walking through, and some idiot guy, bout my age, walks past playin nirvana on his acoustic guitar. Now I'm all for musicians performing, I love hearing live music, even more so I love performing it myself. But I just have to explain my problems here....

For people who don't know, Cathedral Gardens, or "Urbis" as it is better known, is a dirty patch of grass in the middle of Manchester, just behind the Urbis museum, where hundreds of emo/mosher/goth/rocker kids gather for their weekly standing. Sometimes some kid will bring along a guitar, I dont blame them really, it's incredibly boring if you dont have something to do there, however I wouldnt bring my guitar, would attract too much unwelcome attention and I wouldnt play it on there because I dont like to associate myself with that place. The fact is, there are many kids on there that play guitar, but, due to the influences they find through the general taste of music between them all, none of them are any good. So it brings me to wonder why the hell they come out in public, clearly to show off their guitar playing skills, when they don't have any!

Nirvana songs are very easy to play, simple chords that repeat normally covered by heavy distortion to make it a bit more exciting. Most people learn to play that even if they dont play guitar, purely cause it's so easy. So why the hell would anyone want to show it off? The fact is, these people often believe they are good, and the people who hear them give them more respect than they ever deserve. I was tempted to ask to play, so that I could demonstrate exactly what playing guitar is, seeing as they obviously dont know. Why would they play Nirvana on an acoustic guitar anyway? I'll tell you why, its because they most likely dont know how to play any acoustic songs, because their entire music taste is compressed into a single line of genres which varies about as much as the colour scheme of their clothes.

so remember people, when you see people playing crap on guitar such as nirvana, greenday, any other popular punk crap, point out to them that they have nothing worthy of showing off

ps. i wanted to post this as a thread but it wouldnt work...anyone know why?

And I've pretty much narrowed it down to:

Super Alternatives

Music: Anything that isn't popular/heard of by other people, like it's some sort of competition to find bands that nobody has heard of
fashion: pretty cool stuff normally, often somethin funny on a t-shirt.....
behaviour: loud funny and bold

Emos/scenes

music: what ever rock-based bands are popular at the moment (fall out boy, my chemical romance etc) which usually seems original to them since they are still in school and surrounded by scallies.
fashion: black...everywhere....black tops, maybe striped with white or red or pink, drain pipe jeans (really what's with them?) and some sort of black hoody with an emo band name on it, and black hair in some rediculous messy style with maybe blonde highlights and extentions
behaviour: alcoholic children taking photos of themselves and living on myspace. like to call attention to themselves trying to make big problems out of little things

rockers/grunge....people....

music: classic rock stuff (led zeppelin, jimi hendrix, nirvana etc.) or metal from the 80's wtih stupidly fast guitarists and plenty of noise
fashion: baggy, sometimes ripped jeans, t-shirts with bands on them, in extreme cases maybe black trench coats and chains on jeans, often long hair thats left to grow in its own mess
behaviour: almost always playing guitar/bass/drums/all, loud and sometimes aggressive and drunk because they're so "hardcore"

scallies

music: chart topping bass booming fast talking crap. Rap music put together from samples of other songs since they are unable to make their own ideas. Often implying some sort of violence or sex....or a mixture of the two....
fashion: none what so ever, wearing tracksuites and nike hoodies with labels written in big letters across the chest massive fat chains of fake gold from Elizabeth Duke (boys). tiny tops and tight jeans that reveal their unappetising stomachs, huge hooped earings, often pushing prams (girls)
behaviour: very aggressive towards anything that displeases them, people dressed differently, "moshers", buses, street furnature, pretty much anything that can break. Spend their evenings stood outside local shops pestering people to buy them cheap cider/mugging people. Illitenate and unintellegent, claiming money off the government so as to not have to work

skaters/BMXers/bladers

music: just about anything from rap to rock
fashion: hoddies and jeans, nothint oo baggy to avoid catching it in their wheels
behaviour: obsessed with their wheeley boards and believe the world is their skate park, and anyone in the way an enimy

Geeks

Music: Bands your parents might like from the 90's
Fashion: Hopeful clothes that try to replicate the fashion of most others
behaviour: Atempting humour and failing miserably, often the subject of insults and jokes, ignored by all

Disclaimer: Just rmember I am talking GENERALLY here so dont feel offended. I'm not stereotyping in a sence, more pointing out the fact that I could, in a way many people I know wouldnt fit into most of these, including myself.....but who knows....maybe I do

I was sat having my dinner, and my mum said,
"we can go get your guitar some time this week,I finish on wednesday."
"Well I'm at the foo fighters concert on monday, so how about thursday?" i replied
"yes sure" said my mother.

So wednesday and the foo fighters concert came around, the plan was that my friend James would be there early to be first in line, then I would come down some time later since I had college, then we would see Jade later when she got out from school. Simple enough right? WRONG

I got into the MEN arena at about 2:00pm and found one person already qeuing at the doors, and it wasnt james. James didnt turn up untill about 2:30. So nothing to serious I suppose, I sent him to get the subway sandwiches as punishment and all was well. So we waited and waited, and the arena gradually filled more and more, and still there was no sign of jade, which was a shame.

Finally, 6pm came round, and I got the first taste of what was to come as everyone squished togheter in the "ques" for the doors. Eventually we got through into the acctual arena area, straight down onto the floor, and straight to the front, and for the first time ever, I was at the front of the whole floor, right at the barrier!

So we sat and waited for the first supporting act, "the eagles of death metal." and let me tell you, I've heard heavier rock music from a nursing home! Not that I prefer it to be pointlessly heavy, but I thought the title wasnt very suiting, the only good thing about the band was the rather attractive drummer, she probably got the most applause out of the whole band! I was pretty happy with the fact I was right at the front, but of course, that couldn't last, oh no of course not. Some complete skank decided to squeeze himself between me and james, and me being only small, was forced out of the front. We were going to hit him quite fairly, but the security guards we're right infront of us, and eventually persuaded Mr Pushy to move, but by that time the gap was way too small for me to move back into the front for the Futureheads

Now I don't normally like the futureheads, but I must admit they do put on quite a show, they really got the crowd involved, especially for everyones favourite "hounds of love" By this time I was already so squished by the crowd that I had no control over the movement of my body, I coudl even lift my feet from the floor and not move! It got pretty scary when everyone pushed from side to side and i had to find a little bit of floor to put my feet on so that I wouldnt fall to the floor and get trampled by everyone. Even still I enjoyed the show.

Finally the Foo fighters came on at 7, and the whole arena went mad, and everyone sang along to "In Your Honour", including me, since singing was just about the only movement I could make indpendantly. From "In Your Honour" they went straight into "No Way Back" which was also amazing, and an excellent oneping to the show. They then went on to do "My Hero", "Everlong", "Bug Me", "LEarn To Fly", and many more (I cant remember the exact order) Dave Grohl truely kept the crowd alive and got everuone involved through his truely motivating performace. Meanwhile I was trying to find a little space to breathe, maybe a little breeze of cool air to releave me as yet another crowd surfer manouvered thair way over my head and over the front barrier into the waiting arms of the crowd management. And once again Mr Pushy had returned, stood with his arm on James' shoulders, and his elbow against my jaw, with other people pushing me around. Eventually I ended up right behind the guy, and decided that my elbow would feel much more comfortable if it was pressed into his back

I felt fortunate to survive the whole concert, and It came to the last song int he encore, "One by One" and somehow I knew this would be the one whoch would kill me/knock me out or what ever. The crowd went wild and everyone was getting into it. I was triying to keep my balance, keep my jeans from falling down, and find my jumper somewhere on the floor which had fallen from my waist. And then it happened. One big push from the right, and the whole crowd moved right, far too much for me to keep my balance, I was now right in the middle of the whole pit and down I went, onto the floor. If it hadn't been for someone stood next to me, I probably would have been trampled to death! By that point my stomach had decided enough was enough, and I started wretching, at which point I decided it would be a good idea to get out of there and started my retreat to the back, stopping every now and then to wretch at the floor, and then I saw Jade! and I was glad to see her but I had to keep going so I could get out to the back where there was penty more space, and I didnt want to ruin the song for her. And that was all I saw of her, Then finally I reached the back and got my breath back while I waited for the whouse lights to come on So I could go back to the front to fand james and my jacket. Then we made our way to the exit into the could outside, where i allowed my sweat soaked t-shirt to dry out as much as it could before I got too cold. Then we marched over to subway to get a drink; subway was closed, over to frankie and bennies; closed, then Mcdonalds; closed, so James tried to take us down to the AMC but fortunately we found an open subway which was lucky because there was no way I could survive the walk to the AMC. So I got home, went straight to bed, with plans to get up half an hour earlier so that I could get a shower. Of course when my alarm went off at 7:10pm there was no way I could lift myself out of bed, my mum had to wake me up half an hour later.

And just to top off my painful time, my mum turned to me and said this morning, "so We'll go and get your guitar next week yea?"
