So lets just start this story in my living room last monday. I was sat having my dinner, and my mum said,
"we can go get your guitar some time this week,I finish on wednesday."
"Well I'm at the foo fighters concert on monday, so how about thursday?" i replied
"yes sure" said my mother.
So wednesday and the foo fighters concert came around, the plan was that my friend James would be there early to be first in line, then I would come down some time later since I had college, then we would see Jade later when she got out from school. Simple enough right? WRONG
I got into the MEN arena at about 2:00pm and found one person already qeuing at the doors, and it wasnt james. James didnt turn up untill about 2:30. So nothing to serious I suppose, I sent him to get the subway sandwiches as punishment and all was well. So we waited and waited, and the arena gradually filled more and more, and still there was no sign of jade, which was a shame.
Finally, 6pm came round, and I got the first taste of what was to come as everyone squished togheter in the "ques" for the doors. Eventually we got through into the acctual arena area, straight down onto the floor, and straight to the front, and for the first time ever, I was at the front of the whole floor, right at the barrier!
So we sat and waited for the first supporting act, "the eagles of death metal." and let me tell you, I've heard heavier rock music from a nursing home! Not that I prefer it to be pointlessly heavy, but I thought the title wasnt very suiting, the only good thing about the band was the rather attractive drummer, she probably got the most applause out of the whole band! I was pretty happy with the fact I was right at the front, but of course, that couldn't last, oh no of course not. Some complete skank decided to squeeze himself between me and james, and me being only small, was forced out of the front. We were going to hit him quite fairly, but the security guards we're right infront of us, and eventually persuaded Mr Pushy to move, but by that time the gap was way too small for me to move back into the front for the Futureheads
Now I don't normally like the futureheads, but I must admit they do put on quite a show, they really got the crowd involved, especially for everyones favourite "hounds of love" By this time I was already so squished by the crowd that I had no control over the movement of my body, I coudl even lift my feet from the floor and not move! It got pretty scary when everyone pushed from side to side and i had to find a little bit of floor to put my feet on so that I wouldnt fall to the floor and get trampled by everyone. Even still I enjoyed the show.
Finally the Foo fighters came on at 7, and the whole arena went mad, and everyone sang along to "In Your Honour", including me, since singing was just about the only movement I could make indpendantly. From "In Your Honour" they went straight into "No Way Back" which was also amazing, and an excellent oneping to the show. They then went on to do "My Hero", "Everlong", "Bug Me", "LEarn To Fly", and many more (I cant remember the exact order) Dave Grohl truely kept the crowd alive and got everuone involved through his truely motivating performace. Meanwhile I was trying to find a little space to breathe, maybe a little breeze of cool air to releave me as yet another crowd surfer manouvered thair way over my head and over the front barrier into the waiting arms of the crowd management. And once again Mr Pushy had returned, stood with his arm on James' shoulders, and his elbow against my jaw, with other people pushing me around. Eventually I ended up right behind the guy, and decided that my elbow would feel much more comfortable if it was pressed into his back ![]()
I felt fortunate to survive the whole concert, and It came to the last song int he encore, "One by One" and somehow I knew this would be the one whoch would kill me/knock me out or what ever. The crowd went wild and everyone was getting into it. I was triying to keep my balance, keep my jeans from falling down, and find my jumper somewhere on the floor which had fallen from my waist. And then it happened. One big push from the right, and the whole crowd moved right, far too much for me to keep my balance, I was now right in the middle of the whole pit and down I went, onto the floor. If it hadn't been for someone stood next to me, I probably would have been trampled to death! By that point my stomach had decided enough was enough, and I started wretching, at which point I decided it would be a good idea to get out of there and started my retreat to the back, stopping every now and then to wretch at the floor, and then I saw Jade! and I was glad to see her but I had to keep going so I could get out to the back where there was penty more space, and I didnt want to ruin the song for her. And that was all I saw of her, Then finally I reached the back and got my breath back while I waited for the whouse lights to come on So I could go back to the front to fand james and my jacket. Then we made our way to the exit into the could outside, where i allowed my sweat soaked t-shirt to dry out as much as it could before I got too cold. Then we marched over to subway to get a drink; subway was closed, over to frankie and bennies; closed, then Mcdonalds; closed, so James tried to take us down to the AMC but fortunately we found an open subway which was lucky because there was no way I could survive the walk to the AMC. So I got home, went straight to bed, with plans to get up half an hour earlier so that I could get a shower. Of course when my alarm went off at 7:10pm there was no way I could lift myself out of bed, my mum had to wake me up half an hour later.
And just to top off my painful time, my mum turned to me and said this morning, "so We'll go and get your guitar next week yea?"
